Carton Flow Rack in Atlanta, GA

Atlanta e-commerce fulfillment and parts distributors can run out of usable pick faces before they run out of pallet storage. Carton flow brings cases or suitable totes forward on inclined tracks. Replenishment takes place behind the pick face, helping separate restocking from order selection when the building gives both activities the access they need.

Norcross, Duluth and Lawrenceville in Northeast Gwinnett combine wholesale distribution, light manufacturing and mid-size warehouses. In those operations, carton dimensions and daily picks often matter more than reserve pallet counts. We plan the picking zone around the containers that actually move through it, including packaging variation from imported consumer goods.

Start With the Pick Face, Not the Reserve Pallets

Identify which items belong at the working face and how often each lane needs replenishment. A fast-moving item may need a different lane allocation from a slow seller even when the cartons are the same size. We compare case quantities, order patterns and the space operators need to work beside one another.

Carton construction, underside contact and weight affect movement on the selected tracks. Provide the smallest and largest cases, partly emptied cartons where relevant, and the intended tote types. Lane width, separators and the loading arrangement should suit that range rather than assuming every box travels alike.

If pallet reserve storage sits above the carton lanes, beam capacity and frame configuration must cover the proposed pallet loads as well as the picking equipment. Forklift reach and aisle width remain part of the reserve layout. The carton-flow area should not create a replenishment conflict with trucks handling overhead stock.

Review the Existing Rack and Replenishment Drawing

Flow tracks can sometimes be incorporated into an existing rack arrangement, but manufacturer identification, beam details and loading requirements must be checked. We distinguish new track equipment from any revised supporting rack. Reconfiguring elevations can change capacity, so retaining an old beam does not remove the need to review its proposed use.

The replenishment drawing should show where reserve pallets wait and how cases reach the rear of each lane. For a Gwinnett or Cobb picking team, we compare the busiest items with available lane space and the frequency of restocking. Picking heights must suit the people using the system, while any reserve levels above remain within forklift reach. The plan also identifies which lanes can be installed first without closing the entire picking area.

A Gwinnett Pick Module Is Not a Henry County Bulk Row

Older Norcross buildings may have 18–28 ft clear height, while smaller flex space in Buford, Marietta or the GA-400 corridor has its own handling constraints. Those spaces deserve a pick layout matched to the available working height and replenishment route, rather than a reduced copy of a large I-75 South distribution building.

Floor-loaded Port of Savannah containers can lead to mixed case sizes after receiving. We ask how that incoming stock is sorted before it reaches the lanes, and which reserve locations feed the pick faces. Carton flow serves case selection; selective pallet rack may remain the better choice for the reserve inventory.

Installation planning identifies which picking lanes can be released and how orders will continue elsewhere. In a non-air-conditioned warehouse, summer heat affects crew and staging arrangements. Material shipping and installation access are checked together so new tracks do not arrive before the receiving team can store or install them.
